Taking that first step…
Everyone’s path to therapy is different. What connects us is our shared human experience of facing challenges, feeling vulnerable, and needing support sometimes.
You might wonder if your concerns are too complicated or not significant enough for assessment or therapy. But seeking support isn’t about having the right reason - it’s about giving yourself permission and space to grow and navigate life’s ups and downs.
Finding your wise inner voice can help the decision-making process, remembering that change is a process. Be kind to yourself. Many people deeply understand the value of therapy yet still hesitate. Finding the right therapist, and wondering if you’ll feel truly understood are natural concerns.
If you’re unsure, start with a conversation. I am happy to offer a 15-minute chat to help you work this out. Taking care of your mental health and well-being is one of the most important and life-changing actions you can do for yourself and your family. Therapy is a space dedicated to supportive discovery, reflection, meaning, re-orienting and building skills to help life feel joyful and intentional. The most important step is simply beginning.
What to expect…
The main goal of our first session is for me to get to know you and understand what’s brought you here. We’ll start by talking about what’s been going on for you and what you’d like support with. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once - this is a space where we can move at a pace that feels right for you.
I will start by asking questions about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to get a clearer picture of how I can help. If you have any reports or assessments, please bring them along with you. If you have any questions or concerns about the process, I’m happy to answer them at any time. If you’re seeking support for your child, the first session is a parent-only appointment to understand your child’s development, your parenting approach, and your key concerns. For teenagers, this can vary - we’ll discuss it in the initial intake and decide together whether the first session is with both of you, just the parent, or just the teen.
My role is to work alongside you, whether this is as an individual or as a family unit. Together, we will find strategies that are helpful and realistic for your life. It’s normal to feel a little unsure at first - this is a supportive space to talk things through.
Growth starts here. Let’s work together.
If you are a new client, you can select a 15-minute intake appointment in the “Book Now” button to chat with Martine confidentially about whether this is the right place for you to get support.
