Therapeutic Approach
I love to take a deep dive, exploring both internal and external influences that shape our thinking patterns, behaviour and emotional well-being. My work centres on embracing change and building healthy relationships, starting with self and those you love and ultimately extending to how you engage with the world. By collaborating closely with clients, therapy builds capacity and provides practical psychological tools that foster meaningful, lasting change. I use a range of interventions, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based strategies. Underpinning the process of therapy is the bio-psycho-social model of health. This is a holistic approach in understanding our unique experiences, which means therapy will explore family history, communication styles, relationships, beliefs, interests, school/work, coping mechanisms and functioning. These provide clues into our mental health conditions and life experiences.
I prioritise a safe, compassionate space so that our sessions offer opportunities for you to grow, discover strengths, build healthy self-beliefs, expectations and boundaries and recognise what matters. You will learn how to communicate your needs and reshape unhelpful patterns into workable coping strategies.
A Welcoming Space for All
As both a psychologist and parent, I am dedicated to creating an inclusive, affirming environment where everyone feels welcomed and understood. I am committed to supporting LGBTIQ+, neurodivergent and culturally diverse individuals.
Whether working with adults seeking confidence in their various roles or empowering young people to navigate life's challenges, sessions with me work towards developing greater self-awareness to thrive amidst life's complexities.
With Martine’s guidance and support, you don’t have to face the hard stuff alone!
Professional Experience
With over 15 years in the not-for-profit sector, my work is attachment-focused and trauma-informed. Martine's professional experience includes extensive work with children, teens, and adults across various settings—from out-of-home care and family violence support to youth homelessness and parenting programs. More recently as a psychologist, she has practiced at Headspace, in community mental health, and private practice settings.
Taking That First Step
Everyone’s path to therapy is different. What connects us is our shared human experience of facing challenges, feeling vulnerable, and needing support sometimes.
You might wonder if your concerns are too complicated or not significant enough for assessment or therapy. But seeking support isn’t about having the right reason - it’s about giving yourself permission and space to grow and navigate life’s ups and downs.
Finding your wise inner voice can help the decision-making process, remembering that change is a process. Be kind to yourself. Many people deeply understand the value of therapy yet still hesitate. Finding the right therapist, and wondering if you’ll feel truly understood are natural concerns.
If you’re unsure, start with a conversation. I am happy to offer a 15-minute chat to help you work this out. Taking care of your mental health and well-being is one of the most important and life-changing actions you can do for yourself and your family. Therapy is a space dedicated to supportive discovery, reflection, meaning, re-orienting and building skills to help life feel joyful and intentional. The most important step is simply beginning.
“Life’s beauty cannot be separated from its fragility”
This uncomfortable yet beautiful idea from psychologist Susan David demonstrates how complex life can be.
In therapy, we can embrace life's challenges and break them down into smaller steps by asking, “What’s the next best step I can take?” This helps us manage the tension between our fears and the opportunities for growth ahead.
